There is a reason NFL team values are skyrocketing and it is not because of inflation. Teams have never seen the kind of profitability that they are experiencing now as a result of the latest extremely owner friendly CBA. If anyone doubts this, just look at Goodell's salary which is directly related to how much his bosses are making. 180 million in 9 years, almost 80 million of that in the last two years alone!!!
NFL teams aren't strapped for cash. Absolutely none of them are losing money. Sure, they can use funny math to make it appear as if the are losing money but that isn't reality. Today's NFL teams are literally flush with money and that makes comments like this from Wood insulting. This isn't about needing more money to improve the team/stadium/facilities/staff, it is about needing more money to pad the Ford's pockets. A job Wood has been doing for the Ford for a very long time and the only reason why he was hired as the Lions president.
Clearly, he either thinks Detroit fans are complete morons or he just doesn't care about the fans beyond lip service. Both options are insulting.

DeleteThis is a trend I am not liking. The Lions were previously an ATM machine for one person. Ford sr. Now they are an ATM machine for one person, his wife who is not going to be around much longer. Soon enough there will be several surviving children's hands reaching out for their share of dead Daddy's money making machine and as always, the more hands that need to be filled with cash, the more it will cost those that provide that cash.

At least you have brought up a real issue. POD's been arguing for a week about Wood saying the oline & depth should be better. No shit, we all know that but it's World War fuckin 3 over there because the "non football guy" said it. I couldn't involve myself, this however is something that probably should've been discussed. People explain it away with statistics of where we are relative to other teams but this organization has no valid excuse for raising prices coming off yet another losing season. They don't have to worry about getting my money though, haven't stepped foot in Ford Field for years now. No plans tor future trips until there's something worth seeing.
DeleteWell, I will say this, Wood needs to STFU about the football side of things. It is admittedly not his area, he shouldn't comment on it. It is that simple. Him commenting on that leaves me highly skeptical of him keeping his nose out of the football side of running the team and that worries me. The Detroit Lions have a long history of bean counters ruining it's professional football teams.
DeleteThe very idea that people think being in the bottom third of the NFL in ticket costs is a valid reason to raise prices is obscene. One playoff win in almost 60 years. Lions tickets should be the cheapest in the league. They should be begging fans to come to the games but the bulk of the Lion's fans are idiots. Like you, I do not give them any of my money and haven't in over two decades.
