4/20, CJ Mosley, the Lions and DOOOOOOOOOM?

Ok, today is April 20th. For those that choose to partake in the green bundle this is a quasi national holiday and the NFL for all its flaws seems to have a sense of humor. Today is also the day that drug testing for non-performance enhancing drugs starts for players around the league and on that list is Marijuana! This really does make me laugh.

What does this mean? Simple, if a player likes to smoke marijuana, he would have had to stop roughly 30 days ago to ensure that the metabolites were out of his system in time for his once a year random drug test that absolutely will happen between 4/20 and 8/9. Once that test sample is given by the player, they are free to partake until roughly 3/20 of the following year.

How does this apply to C.J. Mosley? Simple, he somehow thought it was a good idea, while visiting another country, to try to disable a smoke detector last year in his hotel room so he could partake in some sticky. That ended with him being sent home and suspended. I understand that he is no longer with the team but that really isn't the point. The point, we aren't talking about Rhodes scholars here. Players typically are rather... how do I say it. Jug head jocks. Even the ones that fancy themselves to be more, if we are being honest, are often none too sharp. And that leaves us here...

This is the hot window of recreational drug violations for NFL players. I hope each and every Detroit Lions player, who chooses to partake in the privacy of his own home, is either smart enough to have stopped a month ago or lucky enough to be picked late enough in the testing period to allow him to test "clean". Call me cynical if you must but I have more faith in luck than I do smarts. At least when it comes to the majority of NFL players.

  1. personally feel like they don't have to be idiots more than all the other people who get around drugs tests in every/other industries and I doubt CJ was the only Lion who partook, or attempted to partake last year.

    1. well, I didn't intend to suggest that people that use are idiots. That couldn't possibly be further from my intent. I was talking exclusively about NFL players, no one else.

  2. off topic but I figured out how to keep the text from smashing into video that was embedded into the post. Asthetically, I found that to be extremely ugly and made reading much more difficult. it was rather easy to fix really but more difficult to explain. In the edit function of your post you will see the html for your video, find....

    style="clear: left; float: left;"

    or some variant of that.

    and add in padding:5px; within the quotes so it looks like this...

    style="clear: left; float: left; padding:5px;"

    problem solved. Easy.
