Chris Spielman to announce the Lions 2nd round pick

Ok, the title covers it all. Unless we trade our pick we can expect Spielman to do his thing. Does he announce our pick from a broken facemask?

This is what a real football player looks like.

  1. This will be a good place for an open thread of sorts...

  2. Over the last few days seeing a lot of noise about Caldwell wants to turn the Lions into a run first team. Which I think is great. But over the last 6 season this team was built to be a finesse passing team. So I am kinda torn because I really think Gurley and Gordon are going to be solid NFL running backs are on by a large margin better than the next tier of guys in the draft. But without solidifying the o-line first a running back is not going to do to much.

So the question... if the Lions were to commit on being a running team, would you take Gurley or Gordon in the first and get an o-lineman with the 2nd or 3rd? Or would go o-line @23 than RB later?

    1. i guess it depends on who is there. if I go running back top pick, a might even use my next to on lineman if a talented guy was there with the second pick might have to jump on him because he might not be there for the third round and then when the third round pick comes up, the BPA might actually be a guard anyways….

    2. If they go RB in the first round I am going to be pissed. We have spent loads and loads of resources on our offense while spending pennies on our O line. That needs to change now. build the O line then find your RBs.

JCruize, I think this type of question would make a great article. It doesn't have to be long or complex.

    1. Click on the "Rodney Austin" link to read more about the Rodney's arrest and situation. Sounds a lot like a he said she said situation.

    2. sounds like a bad relationship - gotta get out of those… hard to do, really hard to do when you are in your 20s

    3. I still have hopes that this is all just bluster and he can return. If he really is innocent.

  4. I saw this mayhem quote " I would say probably about 50-percent of my personal time goes into that quality player. The 50-percent goes into probably the first two rounds, then 50-percent on three on down probably. Just in terms of tape, phone calls and talking with people and researching background, all that. I spend a lot of time on the first two rounds. When we get back in the fifth and sixth round, I'm really relying on our scouts, our area scout, our college director, our national guys, coaching staff who spend time with some of these guys. So, I'm really relying on those guys more so. Frequently, I've not spent as much time on those guys as I have on the other guys."

from the results I think the method shows true to how they spend their time… now I wonder how that compares to other teams… and this is an insight into the Lions method, Mayhew's method. to me, a very interesting quote a peak inside

    1. At the very least, this sheds some light on the reasons Mayillen's drafts from the 3rd round on have been so horrible.

I think it is safe to believe that a team like the Ravens, one that cherishes their mid round picks, spends considerably more time on the middle of their draft.

    2. interesting… I wonder if we'll see a shift from Mayhew in future quotes where he will say they should spend more time on them
I wonder what they did in Jacksonville since Jville seemed to have such a connection to Lions for a while

  5. i saw other quotes that seem to show some of the lions methods… prep for combine and senior bowl, giving coaches more info… I wonder how other teams do it, have done it?
in my mind these are examples of specific things that go into the running of the team that others might take a differing approach on…. and with those differences we can start to see if the Lions offer different methods or have just been "unlucky"… for those that don't like crediting Xanders Mayhew keeps going back to 2011 as the year they changed the approach, which would be the draft of 2012….

    1. These sorts of things linger when you hire the right hand man of the worst GM in the history of sports.

Mayillen wasn't qualified for the job in the first place and still isn't.

    2. having discussions i wonder where Mayhew is not on that spectrum… he has learned… how much more does he have to learn? I think outside experience from outside of the Lions would've helped him but he got to be a GM without it, and there's only 32 jobs of it in the nil so obviously he did something right

    3. He came cheap. really cheap. This is not new for the Lions owners.
