Lions OTA coming fast..

Detroit will be holding their OTAs on Tuesday May 26th through Thursday May 28th. By rule, these practices are non-padded and non-hitting with coach instruction. In the past teams have often been caught pushing their players too far during these practices and were subsequently punished with a limitation of future practices but I honestly don't see that happening here in Detroit. Papa Jim just doesn't strike me as the type that would allow something like that under his watchful eye.

So, during the middle of our coming week, what do you think is the most important thing we might hear coming from the press coming our Lions' OTA?

For me, it is all about health. No Wammies, No Whammies, NO WHAMMIES!!!!!!

Just don't get hurt guys!

  1. I will miss Gunny's take on how every single defensive player has impressed him, and is farther along in their development than he thought

    1. I miss that crazy old kraut too. I honestly believe he was never allowed to run his own defense. With the talent we had, it would have been fun to watch if he had been.

  2. I think the most important will be about both lines. 3 new starters on the d-line and 3 or 4 new starters on the o-line

    1. 2 new starters at DT.... Jones and Ansah are still intact

    2. I am not seeing Jones as starter material. He does not get to the QB on a regular basis. He was solid against the run last season, but with Ngata being the wall in the middle, whomever is on the left side will need to get after the QB. IMO Webster will beat out Jones, and Jones could be asked to play a little more on the inside this season taking some of the pressure off of Walker and Wright. The interior line's rotation is a little weak as far as experience and proven abilities. The edge rushers look to have depth at least on paper. Here's hoping that Wooton gets back to his 2012 form.

    3. No Question, someone needs to push Jones further back on the depth chart but is Webster really the guy to do that?

    4. I am happy we are finally pouring resources into protecting Stafford, both in the passing game and with a solid run game (hope that works out). That much turn over can make for an unsettling early part of the following season. We will see what happens.

It is entirely unacceptable to have to rebuild so much of our D line after all the resources we wasted recently.

    1. How great would it be if all 5 OL kills it? Watching games where Matthew only has to drop back about 35 times a game, because the OL is collective road grating beast allowing the RBs to run wild.

If they can do that, Lions win in a mid-November at Lambeau and a late December in Chicago.

  4. Digs is in OTAs today. Good on him for keeping his integrity. His agent played the 'I want more money game'.... and Idhedgibo realized it wasn't going to work and will honor his contract/team obligations.
