The first media availability of Dan Quinn happens today around 2pm est. I think it is safe to believe the decision on Caldwell will be made before that happens. Personally, I don't want him back. His blank stares on the sideline when things start going wrong and his inexplicable late game snafus have sealed his fate in my eyes. That said, I can easily see a world where the lions go conservative and keep him around for another year in order to ease the transition of Quinn into his new job and that is honestly what I believe will happen.
If Quinn doesn't make a decision before his presser today, he better be ready to deflect a ton of questions from the media about it.
I wonder, is there a way to see those pressers live?
Update: That answered none of the questions facing the Lions. Quinn told the press he hasn't made up his mind on Caldwell yet. Frankly, the longer Quinn waits to fire him, the less likely it will happen. Apparently, I should begin preparing myself for another bad season of lions football while watching Papa Jim stand on the sidelines dazed and confused.

I'm of the opposite opinion. If he was going to retain him he would do it today or tomorrow. If he likes the job Caldwell has done would he have to sit down with him to keep him? No. He probably has a good idea of what is wrong and just whats to meet Caldwell to give him a chance to explain his side. Beside he has until the Pats finish their post season before he can hire Daniels or Patricia anyway so he might as well use this time.
ReplyDeleteAlso having to work so closely with the HC, Quinn probably would feel more comfortable with someone closer to his own age and background.

DeleteYour point makes me wonder if he might on the fence about Grandpa Jim. He has said he wants to talk to Matt and Calvin before making a decision on Jim. Maybe their past endorsements of Jim is pushing back his fire date? Quinn wants to talk to them before he cans their buddy.
BTW, I am of the opinion that no player should ever have any say on the coach and or GM situations.
