Check it out.

  1. This is kinda sorta combine related...but I am beyond shocked Pettigrew hasn't been cut yet. I wonder what their plans are for him...has JBC been consulted & they've come to the decision he'll be used more? Can you really trust him as an option with his injury history? I thought they'd find a much cheaper option for a 2nd TE without the health issues. This is combine related because this was 1 of the things I was wondering & got no definitive answer like with Reiff...because the media used Bob Quinn's combine presser to ask every other fucking question about Calvin. Have you spoken to Calvin? Would you like to have Calvin? If Calvin comes back, would you trade Calvin? Judging by your conversation, on a scale of 1-10 how well do you think Calvin would do in a post football career as a phone sex worker? How does is go?....SIGH.

    1. The media in Detroit are lap dogs spewing propoganda as the Loins see fit. I miss Killer. He would have asked real questions instead of reaching for a sound byte that he knew he was never going to get.

Ahhh, Petidrop. And Edrop. What is with that? Why would anyone draft not one but two TEs in the first round with bad hands? At least Grew is big enough to be a legitimate threat to make a competent block now and then. Ebron is basically a heavy slow WR with bad hands. I bet we could have had Donald play TE better and he would have been faster off the Line of scrimmage too.

You make a good point. Grew's cap hit is the 9th biggest on the roster. For a 2nd/blocking TE!!! That screams, get younger and get cheaper, NOW. I have two ideas why it hasn't happened yet...

      1) We have a lot of cap space. 35 million plus cap space. Matt knows Grew, Grew knows the system and we aren't desperate for cap space.

      2) They are waiting for the post june 1st cut so they can spread 1/2 of his dead money to the 2017 season instead of all of it this year. (Note:it is either 2 million this year, or 1 million each year.)

I am leaning towards option #1. And I can easily see us drafting a mid to late round TE this year to replace him.

    2. Well, let me say...I'm a supporter of Ebron. I think he improved drastically in his 2nd season, especially after JBC took over. Lets be perfectly honest, Joe Lombardi had no idea what he was doing period. Ebron was bad his 1st season, everyone not named Tate was bad in that idiot's offense. Ebron however showed a lot of the skills that made him a valued prospect whether you wanna deny it or not & though I think it's pretty clear at this point Donald is the superior player....that Ebron pick keeps looking better & better for me.

For 1, I think in terms of financial positioning for the future...I think Ebron who I can honestly see as a pro bowl caliber player is a much more manageable piece than a Donald long term. I know the cap keeps rising but Ziggy(who we argued over & I was right :p) with Slay (who we argued over & I was right :p lol) put with Donald's salary which I'm sure will make $uh money look like peanuts....will be absolutely absurd. This flies directly in the face of what we say we want, a balanced team & a strong, deep defense.

It can be argued that long term Ebron is the better bet when speaking about actually building that type of team. Secondly, there's the matter of the player himself. Despite what his stigma may be...I think you've spoken to that, he's actually quite a talented player. He did some really impressive things last season, you just had to acknowledge them when they happened. The drops, they're overblown. I believe he had 5. People make it sound like he had a crucial drop per game. The stats, show that he doubled his production in virtually every category. They weren't empty stats either, go watch the games late in the season. Big chunks of yac, practically a 1st down every time he touched the football. The guy is developing rather well despite being the 4th option on the team in terms of targets. Now you take into account Calvin's impeding retirement either this offseason or next & that pick looks even better. Read me clearly. I'M NOT SAYING EBRON IS AS GOOD AS CALVIN JOHNSON, I'm merely saying he can take over many of his responsibilities in our offense. Many fans & pundits are looking around for the big redzone target, or the mismatch player. He's already on the roster. He just got 2-4 targets a game last season while we focused on CJ & Tate. No Megatron equates to more opportunities & I believe those will lead to yet another huge jump in production. The much maligned piece just so happens to fit perfectly into the type of team we want to build moving forward with Quinn.

    3. You know, I think LomNoti knew what he was doing, He just had one critical fault problem. He had the wrong players for what he wanted to do and refused to make an adjustment for that reality. Square pegs into round holes and all that. Hopefully, he will learn from his mistakes here. (BTW, I found a site that listed targets for TEs last year. Ebron had 33 before the break and 37 after. He had 5 drops, 7.1% drops on targets)

Let me be clear here about Ebron. I know he has the skills to be a good plus NFL player. The problem I have is, you don't draft a TE in the top 10 unless he going to be a Gronk 2.0. That isn't happening. It is not Ebron's fault he was picked to high, it is the fault of Mayillen and his insatiable lust for shiny baubles. A trait he inherited from the Mustashio'd moron.

I am happy to be wrong about Ziggy. I am happy for him and for the Lions and for us. I don't recall being anti-slay but I will say this. I am not of the belief that he is a top 10 NFL corner that a lot of people are trying to sell him as right now. He is getting better.

We will see on Ebron. His drops, still far too often, if he doesn't get them under control will erode Stafford's confidence in him. My fear, more opportunities for Ebron = more drops for Ebron.

I stand by my statement. You don't draft a player with the dropsies in the top half of the first round of the draft. It doesn't matter how fast/athletic/flashy a guy is if he drop the damn ball too often. Ebron drops the damn ball too often.

BTW, sorry about the delay in my response here. I went on a '70s, 80s and 90s movie bender. I forgot how much I enjoyed Big Trouble in Little China Town as a young person.
