Round 3 of My Very Merry Mayhew-esque Draft

After going running back and safety in the first 2 rounds, it is finally time for Mayhew to address the interior lines.  So with the 88th pick overall the Detroit Lions select...

Lynden Trail DE, Norfolk State

With the all but certain departure of George Johnson, Mayhew felt that bringing another defensive end was the best thing to do in the 3rd round.  Lynden will bring in some size, edge rush ability, and depth to a position that is really in need of it.

At, 6'7 269 lbs Trail certainly passes the eye test with his tall and lengthy frame.  He has a smooth fluid motion and has the ideal bend when rushing the passer.  Has a quick first step and seemingly high motor.

A former top recruit at Florida, Trail and spent his last two seasons as a transfer at Norfolk State University.  Played mostly as a hybrid 3-4 OLB with on occasion had his hand on the ground as a 4-3 defensive end. With his size he should be drafted as a DE and be a good fit for a 4-3 defense that will use different looks from time to time.

Recap of Mayhew's first three picks, Melvin Gordon, RB, Jaquiski, Tartt S, Lynden Trail DE.

Up next round 4... I mean 6?

  1. And this is why I don't like trading away the middle of your draft for a on the down slope player. The wait from round 3 to round 6 is going to feel eternal and a lot of very good players are going to be drafted that we have no chance of adding to our team.

    1. and because of not having those picks there might be a need to overdraft for a player
