Lions 101: Selling out the future for today to cover yesterday's mistakes!

Trading next years 3rd round pick for this years 4th round pick is the kind of thing desperate GMs do to fix their past mistakes today instead of just dealing with the problem. We essentially got a 4th round talent with a 3rd round pick. This is how to NOT draft.

I love my Lions but damn man. We have an idiot running our team.

  1. Even worst is that the player is a lesser Fairley clone. 24 tackles and one sack is not very productive in college football. Then to use 2 draft picks on the guy is beyond me.

This will be a make or break year for Martin. I still see the same holes still being holes before the draft.

    1. i wish he had made the picks but held onto the future draft picks and maybe thought of trading them away at that point. just see potential holes on the Lions, some beijng filled yet even a good drafting GM misses on 50 % of the picks so not all these guys are going to pan out. I think I would've also taken ali market for insurance and while that might've left the Lions with 3 stud guards, I'd still have been okay with that

  2. I think Compensatory picks should be considered. Lions let a couple high profile FA's go this year. to add... Draft picks are not savings accounts.

    1. You are right, they aren't saving accounts but they are the most valuable commodity in the NFL and shouldn't be squandered lightly.

Around this time next year, we are all going to ask ourselves, was that guy worth our 3rd rounder? He will absolutely get a chance to prove he is worth it but that is going to be a huge order for him to fill. I am rooting for him because he is a Lion now but I don't see it. I hope I am wrong.

I would rather have two 3rds next year. Our normal one and the late third we get as compensation.
