It has all been said

Before I start, let me ask you, is this really a surprise? You are a Lions fan, does this really surprise you? Really?

Just read around. Everything that could be said about the Lions and their 0-3 season so far has been said. They are really not good right now. They look inept in all phases of the game. All of them. Let us have a quick look at each phase....

On offense it is really easy to sum it all up in one word. SHIT

Offensive line: shit
Running backs: shit
Quarterback: shit
WRs: shit
TEs: shit (will someone tell Edrop to STFU already? please?)
In no particular order, all shit.

Each unit has had moments of competency but not a single one of them has shown any consistency let alone the ability to compliment any other offensive unit. It is similar to watching a high school team out there. They have a vague plan but it just doesn't mesh well from one unit to another resulting in sloppy, disorganized and ultimately shitty play. There's that word again.

On defense it is extremely easy to sum it up in two words: Talent lacking

Defensive line:talent lacking
Linebackers:talent lacking
Safeties:talent lacking
Corner Backs:talent lacking

I know what you are going to say, but but, we have Ngata, Levy, Quinn and Slay. My response to that, it takes 11 guys plus rotational talent to build a stout defense. Our D line is built ENTIRELY on guys that would have, save Ziggy, been depth at best last year. Some of them wouldn't have even been on our roster. Now those guys are starting and subbing in to spell those starters. How is that a good thing? Is it a surprise our D line play sucks? To me, NO. We have one good LB, one good S and one good CB. It takes a ton more than that to win in the NFL. And no, I am not biting on the media's transparent Lion boot licking desire to sell us fans that the D was better this weekend. It wasn't. They were playing against a hobbled old man QB that had to put everything he had to throw a pass 20 yards in the air. That makes life much much easier on a defense which allowed our S's to play closer to the LOS which made our D line play look better than it really was yesterday. The fact that Manning still managed to carve up Slay with his profound throwing limitations should tell you all you need to know about this defense. We had one sack in that game and it was on a broken play. There is literally ZERO chance Manning will beat you deep. You play the short to medium routes and you are good. That makes a DBs job immeasurably easier but our D line pressure was literally non-existent. Thus leaving Slay out there to get slaughtered and he did. Our D was not better yesterday, it just played against an offense that is severely limited and we still got our asses kicked.

On special teams, two words: Stan Kwan

When did we re-hire him? When was the last time we had a competent plus ST coach? I can't even remember anymore. I think it was the guy before Kwan but that seems like a lifetime ago. Oh how I long for the days of Melvin Junius Gray. Yes, I remember Mel's full name and not Kwans predecessor's name. Blow me. Our special team play is special all right, short bus special.

Coaching, two word: frighteningly Conservative

Papa Caldwell: truth in advertising, I love the guy. I would ask him for life advice. The problem, I wouldn't ask him for football advice.
Both for a lack of faith in his answer and the distinct possibility that he would freeze up like he so often does during games on the sideline when things are falling apart and he doesn't have a backup plan.....

Sometimes I tell myself he is thinking. I hired this schmuck to run my offense? At which point he soils himself but no one knows because we aren't even sure he is still alive, let alone capable of shitting himself.

OC: Not even going to spell out his name. He is a disgrace to his Grand Pas name. You know the saying "the apple fell far from the tree"? That apple clearly fell far from the tree for two consecutive generations resulting in him. If it weren't for his name, he would be coaching a high school offense somewhere. His scheme is stale, slow, predictable and at least 5 years past its prime.

Austin: Lacking Talent

And finally. Management.

Every bit of the shit storm that I mentioned above falls directly on the shoulders of the Lions front office. Our GM (Fuck you Mayillen) was the right hand man of the worst GM in the history of American professional sports and yet somehow some of you are surprised when the players and coaches he picks play like and coach like the team we have seen for three weeks this season. This apple did not fall far from the Millen tree and that is the problem. Worst GM ever to a bad GM will look tempting to a desperate fan base willing to bite on any scrap of prosperity as a sign of things changing. They aren't and it is ENTIRELY the fault of our inept GM. Always never forget that.

And one last thing, Martha, I hope you have more balls that your deceased husband because this off season you need to do something your late husband never did. Clean house, hire a competent GM and get the fuck out of the way.Your fans deserve far better than this shit.

  1. man i wish you would get back on POD. Id have to agree with your assessment on the current situation. The FO and coachs need to go. I would keep Austin maybe even hire him as HC. But this shit is getting really old and wearing on my fandom. I want to ditch my love for this team and root for a winning franchise but it would be false. Lions are like a crack addiction. you know its bad for you but you keep coming back and nothing can replace it.
The Mayhew and Lewand reign needs to end. Now who; do we get to replace them? i have no clue. Former player? Let the new HC have full control?
From what im seeing so far most of the blame falls on the"apple" he is trash. He is destroying what talent we have on this team to apply his system. Hey apple your system sucks and its played out GTFO but our FO/Owners dont have the balls to make change.
All in all a change needs to be made.

    1. I live in Chicago now. I had a customer come into my store today and we got to talking about football. I told him I was a Lions fan and he said, good for you, move or not, you can't quit your team. I will, like you, always be a Lions fan.

A change is absolutely needed and the report going around today about Tate is even more disheartening. Opposing defenses have been calling out offensive plays before we even run them!!! LomNoti needs to go or at the very least have the majority of his responsibility taken away from him.

  2. Martha needs to trade Stafford to Dallas for two first round picks and more....

then clean house... including Tom Lewand...

And dangle this team in front of the best NFL Coaching/GM brass out there.

    1. You are really ready to move on from Stafford? I didn't think you were on that ship yet.

Clean house, yes and then break out the check book for the best FO money can buy.
