free agency so far.....

it is way too early to judge but I am entirely underwhelmed.

-Jones was the "best WR FA" so you knew he would come at a premium. He is young, tall, seems to have legitimate NFL speed and hands. He doesn't seem to be afraid to take a shot and will make some pretty catches now and then. It stands to be seen what he can do when he doesn't have a guy like A.J. Green pulling coverage away from him. JBC has his work cut out for him but Lions fans got their shiny bauble.

-Ngata is old. He isn't just on the down side of his career, he is snowballing down hill. Granted, it is only a 2 year contract but the money is still unknown. Until we know the money, it is difficult to really be upset with this signing. Getting older on the D line isn't going to win the team many games. This signing suggests to me that the Lions are going to be using a 2nd to 4th round pick on DT. Ngata is a very old stop gap player at this point. Nothing more.

-Tavon wilson has a good pedigree being drafted in the second round. The problem, he has slowly been falling out of favor with the Pats for a couple years. Last year he only played 83 snaps on defense. This guy isn't coming here to replace Diggs or Isa. He will be a special team guy and depth in the secondary. We still have a glaring need for a starting S.

-We need more upgrades on both lines. The big uglies win you games. Not the shiny baubles.

-So far, the overall talent of the team has decreased. This will often happen in free agency if a team is truly committed to building in the draft but when you start losing your own young guys in free agency when you have a ton of cap space, that is not ideal.

I am not impressed.

But hey, at least we aren't the browns. Seriously, they are having some sort of massive exodus of talent....

  1. Yup....about what I expected. But hey....there's always the Browns to show everyone what a real rebuild looks like.

    1. real rebuild. lol

they seem to be actively unbuilding and that isn't even a word but leave it to the browns.

    2. Further, the Browns are bleeding talent like it doesn't matter. No matter how I feel about the Lions, I can look at them and instantly feel better.

  2. Gotta say, I'm feeling quite insulted by Bengals fans today. I know increasing/decreasing value of your team's players at this time of year is the norm for fans. But I could do without the talking down of the Lions. From others I can understand....not from them. Suggestions that Jones will be a disappointment not because he's not a good player but because Lions fans will be expecting a Calvin Johnson replacement. Lions fans are idiots but people aren't that stupid, no one expects Jones to be Megatron. There also seems to be a feeling that he got what he wanted, more money & more opportunity....yet will ultimately be disappointed in his decision because "Detroit is almost as big a mess as the Browns", "Lions gonna Lion" & "the only thing that matters is winning". Those thoughts were both frustrating & hilarious. Frustrating because it doesn't exactly ring true as a team that's been to the playoffs twice in the last 5 seasons. And yes, we have not won consistently but here's where it's hilarious....this shit coming from Bengals fans. BENGALS fans. The Lions have not won a playoff game in 24 years. Only 1 team in the NFL boast a longer drought....The Cincinnati Bengals, who haven't claimed a postseason win in 25 seasons. I think the Bungles fans would do well to STFU & win before turning their noses up.

    1. No one will ever be another Megatron. That is the one reason I think he will eventually get into the hall of fame. I don't think his total numbers earn him a bust and gold jacket but the way he shined so brightly on admittedly bad teams, I think that will get him in eventually.

As to the Bungles fans. They are feeling cocky because they have reached the playoffs the last 5 years in a row and 6 of the last 7. Not really sure how that can make a Bungles fan cocky considering they have lost each and every one of those games. I guess if that were the case for the Lions, there would be idiot Lions fans cawing about it too. I personally don't think that is deserving of any type of crowing. Making the playoffs and getting your ass handed to you in the first round isn't the goal. Do buffalo fans crow about the bills 4 consecutive superbowl losses?

(side note:that has to be some kind of special hell. 4 consecutive SB losses. Holy shit, that is painful for a fanbase)

Reading your post here, I had a thought. This comment would have been a nice article for other Lions fans to read. Would you be interested in an invitation to post articles? All I would need is an email address.

    3. if you do not want to post it here, understandable, you could send it to me at josh1973sun@gmail.com

another voice to this site would be welcome. I don't have much faith in the Lions... Shocker, I know. You do. I think it would be nice to have a different voice here. No requirements, if you feel like something needs to be a post, post it. that kind of thing.

The page hits aren't off the charts but they are growing. I am hoping that Billy and Cruize will return to posting also when the season gets closer.
