Why weren't we in on Mitchell Schwartz

five-years, $33 million deal with $20.7 million guaranteed (12.6 million fully guaranteed)

That is all it took to get him. This is a 26 year old guy  on the rise and we have a desperate need at RT. The money slots right in with where you would expect for a free agent RT. The guy hasn't missed a game in his four NFL seasons. Is there something I am missing here?

  1. Apparently we're in on Okung. Not sure I'm in love with that...big time talent, but he's constantly injured. I suppose he would represent a significant upgrade(when available). I won't get my hopes up though, apparently he has a visit set up with the Giants & he may not leave that building if they continue to spend money like me the first time I got cash for Christmas instead of toys.

    1. That is the thing, Schwartz (that name still makes my skin crawl) is an iron man. Okung might come cheaper but he is 3 years older and has never played a full season. I just don't get it. We have the dollars now, why not spend them on a guy exactly like Schwartz (I keep having to remind myself to not type Shortz).

Okung is a legit LT when healthy..........

    2. The one thing that would give me hope for Okung being able to stay available here is the differences in style between Wilson & Stafford. I'm sure Okung has been in many more positions to get injured than most tackles. His former(?) QB held on to the ball a lot & ran around even more. That probably screwed up plenty pockets & made for many situations where guys were falling on the back of his legs & things of that nature. If we were able to pull it off & he stayed healthy...I'd favor that & moving Riley to RT over Schwartz.

    3. it is an interesting thought. I haven't watched enough hawk games to have an idea of when he was hurt and why.
