Why are the Lions picking so damn fast?

What is the harm of waiting it out a bit? Mayillen used to do this too and it pissed me off then. You are given an allotted amount of time. Why not use most of it waiting for a desperate team to blow you away with an offer?

This draft so far, in that way, feels extremely like a Mayillen draft. Overconfidence in their ability to pick a player yet both players are supposed "high upside" guys. We don't need that. We need guys that can't fail. Particularly in the first two rounds.

And this wait for our pick at the end of the 3rd round makes me want to scream....

Mayillen!!!! Why do you hate us!!!!!

  1. I gotta say, I don't like this pick very much. I disagree with your evaluation of these players. This has been about as "safe" a draft as I've seen in some time. It's almost a little TOO on the nose. I liked the Decker pick, this one is underwhelming. I thought there were more talented DT prospects that had a chance to be better players down the line. I think you should be targeting high upside in early rounds. Robinson feels like a classic Patriots pick....only problem is the Patriots have historically drafted OK...and made up the difference with BB & Tom Brady. I think we're a fairly talented team but are we in a position to draft OK?

    1. You can't miss on the first two round. Taking guys with upside instead of a higher floor stinks of Mayillen.

    2. Excuse my french but, I don't believe in that high floor shit....not when you prioritize character like the Lions do. They don't take risk on character, so if a guy is a extremely talented, he's a choir boy & he'll work hard, in theory he can't fail....that is if you can coach worth a damn. A'Shawn Robinson is a "we can't coach worth a damn pick". Jeez, we can't put guys in position to suceed and help them flourish for once?

    3. I hope you are right brother. I want to believe almost as much as I want to win. I just do not like the arrogance that the first two rounds seemed to display.

  2. Looking back at some of the Patriots picks over the past couple years. They aren't all that in terms on hitting on their first 2 picks. Tavon Wilson, Ras-I Dowling, Aaron Dobson. They've had some good ones too but it appears every bit as hit and miss as anyone else. Something I've known for some time but looking back confirms it. I just keep coming back to the thought, we aren't the Patriots, we don't have BB. I don't think we get to stack the team with "Meh" talent and cruise through the AFC LEast and be called contenders. I'm not trying to kill Robinson but I can't imagine a scenario right now where he sniffs a pro bowl in his career wearing a Lions uniform. I believe you can do better round 2.

    1. We don't have Brady or Billichick. We need wins on our first two picks much more than 50%. They can get away with it because of Billy boy's crazy genius. The guy is a mad wizard and Brady is a virtuoso QB. He doesn't play the loudest but he hits the notes to perfection and rarely gets rattled.

    1. This is what I am talking about. The time comes for the pick and our guys are running to hand in the card. Like they know something that no one else in the NFL knows.

We have seen this. I bitched about this with Mayillen ever damn draft pick. He thought he was the smartest guy in the building. He wasn't even the smartest guy in the room. These fast picks scream of that same sort of arrogance.

      We will see.

    2. i hoped for a trade back for picks next year
but maybe they're counting on losing some free agents and getting comp picks or do the slost free agents come from this year for 2017?
      Tyrunn and others?

    3. Players lost this year in free agency give you comp picks next year. We won't be getting anything next year.
