In the category of not surprising, this wins. Barry left for the same reason. Playing for Detroit and their losing ways is not easy. Two one in a generation talents had the love of the game sucked out of them by the wretched stench that is our Lions.
I hope our new GM can get it done.
Didn't he make the decision after the 11-5 season? Guess Caldwell hung on to Lombardi to help Calvin make an easy transition into retirement.

DeleteFrom what I read, he was leaning to that after the 11-5 season. The quote above suggests to me that not winning made the decision to walk away easier. That and he had a very real doubt about how competitive the team was going to be in the immediate future.
